Projects
At the moment we only offer volunteering projects in the villages of Atsiekpoe and Vume, in the Volta Region. Both villages are part of the Jolinaiko Eco Village.
We are looking for volunteers to assist the local teachers at the primary and junior high school. Like in many other communities in rural Ghana, the Atsiekpoe-Vume school is poorly staffed and experiences a lack of teaching materials and support. Jolinaiko Eco Tours first placed volunteers at this school in 2007 and the positive outcome motivated the school to request for more structural support by Jolinaiko’s volunteers.
Your background
We are looking for adventurous people with the following background:
- Background in professional teaching, like students or graduates of a teaching training college (e.g. PABO in the Netherlands).
- Background in other relevant areas, like students or graduates in languages (English or French), earth-, life- or social sciences.

Your activities
As a volunteer at the Atsiekpoe-Vume school, you will:
- Assist the local teachers in their daily teaching program and organize your own classes depending on your specialization.
- Organize extra classes for pupils experiencing learning difficulties.
- Organize activities to support the community library .
Minimum duration of your stay
We require that you stay for a minimum period:
- From September untill July (the school calendar year) the minimum period is six weeks.
- During the holiday in August and September the minimum period is two weeks (organizing holiday classes and community library activities).
Other projects and internships
Currently, we do not offer any other projects than described above. We also do not have vacancies at the Jolinaiko Eco Tours office at this moment. But you are welcome to send us an open request letter for your internship in (eco-)tourism or related areas.
If you do not have the necessary teaching background, you might be interested in volunteering projects offered by our friends of Meet Africa (English) / Ontmoet Afrika (Dutch).
